Tales from the ambulance (the front, not the back)

How often have we been so concerned about that car accident, overdose, stab
wound -- whatever prompted that 911 call -- that we forgot to consider the guy
or gal driving the ambulance? No worries. Their blogs are here to remind us.

From Crusty Ambulance Driver: "One ladder
truck, one paramedic squad, one EMS supervisor, and one ambulance ... all for
one twisted ankle. The call came in as a possible cardiac arrest at an
industrial factory. We arrived to find a 52 y/o BM guy on the ground with a
twisted ankle. So ... we went ahead and did CPR on his twisted ankle. When we
revived his ankle, we transported the dude to the hospital with heavy,
overkilled spinal immobilization precautions for a guy who fell from standing
with a twisted ankle."
From maddogmedic: "An earnest young student
asks me a serious question. 'What's the hardest part about being a paramedic?' I
look her right in the eye. 'Cocktail parties.'
And from the London-based Random Acts of Reality: "As we arrive at
the house we are met by the rather excitable husband. He is all sweetness and
light, thanking us for turning up so quickly, saying how worried he is and
smiling at us a lot. His wife is in bed, hidden under the duvet, she's fully
clothed so we remove the cover to speak with her.... From across the room even I
can tell that the bruises around her wrist are from a hand grabbing the arm.
Bruising from fingertips is really rather obvious."
