Alaska - Elmendorf rescue team delivers baby at home
by

Cheryl Trinklein was at home taking a bath, trying to relax. She also was 39 weeks, 6 days along in her pregnancy. Suddenly, thing were not so relaxed.

Apparently, the baby decided it was time to make his grand entrance into the world.

“The contractions just kept getting stronger and stronger and then faster and faster -- and then all of the sudden, I was on all fours, and I couldn’t move,” said Cheryl, the wife of Staff Sgt. Dennis Trinklein from the 3rd Component Maintenance Squadron here. “My husband called his friend to tell him we were going to the hospital when my water broke,” she said. “He tried to help me get ready to go to the hospital, but I knew there wasn’t enough time, so he quickly called 911.”

The operator dispatched the ambulance and fire department, and stayed on the line giving Dennis advice and keeping him calm until help arrived, officials said.

Five minutes later, two paramedics and three firefighters arrived at the Trinklein’s on-base quarters. Paramedics Staff Sgt. Barney Chavez and Senior Airman Ryan Hoffman determined the baby would have to be delivered right there.

“I was nervous, but I gave it one good push, and the baby was delivered right there on my living room floor,” Cheryl said.

Dalton was born exactly on his projected due date. He was 20 inches long, and weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces.

“The personnel were so calm and wonderful during the whole thing, and they did such a great job. I felt that the team was taking good care of me, and they knew exactly what to do, and that was just so reassuring for us,” Cheryl said.

Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Dennis and their 3-year-old son, Andrew, arrived to see Cheryl and baby Dalton. The family is home now, healthy and happy, enjoying time together with their new addition, they said.
