Baby Born in a Taxi on the Jerusalem – Tel Aviv Highway
by

Off duty Magen David Adom EMT Tzufi Hass, 31, was stuck in traffic on Route 1 (Jerusalem – Tel Aviv Highway) on Monday when he heard a call come over his MDA radio that a woman was in labor on the highway in the area of Kfar Habad, not far from his location.

Hass decided to respond, realizing the traffic was not moving and the ambulance would have difficulty reaching the woman.

Upon his arrival, the woman’s water had broken and she was in active labor. The taxi driver explained they were on the way to the hospital but were stuck in traffic with no way out. Tzufi delivered the baby boy, but not before he unwrapped the umbilical cord from around the infant’s neck. Shortly after delivery, an ambulance arrived and completed the transport. Mother and son were reported in good condition.
