The call had been transferred to our dispatch center from a county about 100 miles away. The caller said that he was in our town, in a bed in the back of a pickup/camper, and was unable to get out of bed because of MS. He provided excellent directions. The truck was nowhere to be found. We checked the local area, then started branching out, as he provided more information. Apparently he was disoriented, but said he was on the beach, could see the lighthouse, etc. Then he said that he could smell somebody making pancakes nearby. We (and by now, the cops) checked all up and down the coast in parking lots, waysides, etc. Finally, after about 15-20 minutes, the staff of the nursing home that this guy was in (100 miles away), interrupted the phone call and explained all. No MS. No pancakes. No beach. But some serious delusions...
