Doctors are trying the device to track patients recuperating at home.

EMT's may use the CPOD to monitor a victim's vital signs at an accident scene.

The devices can monitor firefighters' blood oxygen levels while they fight fires in burning buildings

Or it could track the exertion levels of athletes, mountain climbers, even scuba divers.

It is the CPOD, developed by Nasa Ames Research Center to monitor the vital signs of astronauts in space. It is a portable wearable device about the size of a computer mouse and is worn around the waist. It runs on AAA batteries.

The CPOD can track a person's physiological functioning as he goes about his normal routines. The CPOD can pick up problems even before a person is aware of them and sound the alarm.
