Tool can transmit X-rays from ambulance to hospital
LifeIMAGE, a Newton company that provides an e-sharing platform for medical images, announced the availability of a new clinical tool that can transmit X-ray images from a small hospital to a distant trauma center in nearly real time.

The tool is called TIME - for Trauma Image Management & Exchange, the company said in a press release.

Here's one scenario for how TIME might be used, a spokeswoman for lifeIMAGE said: Suppose a mountain climber falls and suffers a major injury. Thanks to TIME, X-rays and other medical images taken at a small community hospital nearby can be shared in nearly real-time with a trauma team at a major hospital far away, expediting long-distance medical consultations.

Tufts Medical Center's trauma center plans to deploy TIME within the next few months, lifeIMAGE said.
